If choosing to be good rather than evil were easy, we wouldn’t be so captivated by movies in which ordinary people exhibit feats of heroism. Some of us — even as we manage to be mostly good, most of the time — are still intrigued by evil. Oh — not real-life evil; crazy, science-fiction evil.
As a kid, you pledged to be good. When you and your friends played with the action figures from that science-fiction movie, you fought over who got to play the good guys. You went trick-or-treating as a good guy for Hallowe’en. But now you’re a little older, and a little less naïve. And while you wouldn’t want that particular strain of science-fiction evil to triumph over good, maybe now you’re better able to see both sides of the issue.
The evil guys were evil — of course. They deserved to have their nefarious plans thwarted. And yet…they always did look cool, didn’t they? Now you can, too.
